Grid Signals is a newsletter about the intersection of energy and digital infrastructure — grid modernisation, distributed trust, digital assets, and AI in the energy system.

The energy transition is usually told as a hardware story: solar, wind, batteries, copper. But behind every balancing market, flexibility auction and smart meter sits a growing stack of software, data and digital trust — who verified this measurement, who may dispatch this asset, which registry do we all believe? And as AI moves from forecasting into actual operations — dispatching distributed assets, bidding into markets, balancing the grid in real time — the question sharpens: how do you trust and verify decisions no human made? That stack is where the transition will succeed or stall. Grid Signals is about exactly that layer.

Who writes this

I'm Sascha Janssen. At AWS I spend my days as a Principal Solutions Architect inside the energy industry — its platforms, market systems, data flows. I'm not a grid engineer and don't pretend to be one — Grid Signals is deliberately written outside-in: an architect's fresh eyes on an industry rebuilding itself in real time. Views here are my own, not my employer's.
